Wildlife Photo Workshop FAQ's
Q: How much must I know about photography and computers?
A: This course is designed to cater for all photographers with an understanding of the basics of photography as well as the basics of computer operations.
Q: I want to book a course for myself and a friend?
A: If you are going to share a room and not bring a partner with, you can make a single booking with 2 attendants. If you plan to come as 2 single people with separate rooms, please book the course twice. In other words you need to enter two bookings for you and your friend separately.
Q: What is included in the fees?
A: Your accommodation based on per person sharing
All your meals (3 per day)
Your game drives (private vehicle for course participants)
Your course fees and notes
Q: What is not included?
A: Your drinks and tips for the guide, tracker and staff.
Q: What equipment do I need?
A: You will need a Digital SLR camera with a zoom lens that can zoom to plus minus 400mm. The big animal hide is also suitable for wide angle shots so bring your wide angle lens. Please also bring your tripod head with you if you have one.
Q: Is this course only for Canon photographers?
A: No, this course caters for all Digital SLR users.
Q: What do you mean by the term basic of computer operation?
A: You must at least know how to create new folders and how to navigate through Windows for example, saving, opening and finding your folders and images.
Q: What about a computer?
A: We require you to bring your laptop or desktop computer with you. Please ensure you have at least Windows 7 loaded on your computer.
Q: What about Mac computers?
A: We cater for Mac users as well.
Q: How much must I know about Photoshop/Elements/Lightroom?
A: Knowledge of the software is not a requirement for this course but would be an advantage. The workshop is designed to teach you the best way to process wildlife images. You won’t become a full expert in the software but you will be able to process wildlife photos well.
Q: What if I don’t have Photoshop/Elements/Lightroom on my computer?
A: We will provide you with the latest trial version program that is valid for 30 days.
Q: What clothes must I bring?
A: Preferably neutral coloured clothing (green, brown, khaki etc) Please refrain from wearing bright colours. In Summer months (Oct – Mar) temperatures are warm to hot - so please bring a hat and sun cream. In Winter months (Apr – Sep) the mornings and evenings can get very cold. It is recommended to bring a warm coat, hat and gloves, especially during June, July and August. We also recommend that you are always in possession of a dri-mac or waterproof jacket for the rain.
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: There are ponchos on the vehicle but it is advisable to bring black bin liners with you to put your photographic equipment in.
Q: What if my partner is a non photographer?
A: No problem, you will want to share this with someone. Your partner will join the normal game drive vehicle and other activities offered by the lodge while you are busy with workshop sessions.
