10 Day Namibian 4x4 Photo Safari

Experience the Namib Desert by sleeping in it for a few nights. Spend 3 nights under the stars in comfortable tents mounted on the roof of your 4x4 vehicle. The experience is well worth it and will offer many excellent  photo opportunities in the desert.

 

Product Description

Namibia is a photographer’s wonderland that offers many opportunities. It has vast open landscapes beautiful colours and the Namib Desert has an uncommon beauty. Combine this with a 4x4 vehicle and a photography teacher/guide and you are going to experience some of the most beautiful uninhabited places on earth. And, you will be able to take some of photos of it as well!

 

Photography Training

The photography training will take place on an informal basis with most of it happening in the field and at night around the camp fire. What is true is that you need to spend time in a region to be able to take good photographs of it, which is what this tour offers.

 

4 Star accommodation combined with Comfortable Camping

 We go into the unspoilt areas with fully equipped 4x4 vehicles that come supplied with rooftop tents, fridge, water and kitchen. Day 1,2 and 5 are spent in the desert  with the rest of the nights in quality accommodation.

 

4x4 Experience Level

You do not need to have 4x4 driving experience. You will receive the necessary training guidance from our guide while on route.

 

Photo experience & fitness

This photo tour caters for beginner photographers to experienced. You must have general computer knowledge for the Photoshop workshops done while on tour.

Regarding fitness, to get to Deadvlei is a 20 minute walk in soft sand. If you are able to achieve this you will be ok with the other short walks we do to get to the most beautiful spots.

 

Tour program:

Day 1: Pick up the 4x4 vehicles in Windhoek and stop by the supermarket to stock up on supplies for the next 2 nights. Enter the Namib Naukluft Park to overnight at Rock Arch. There is no water at this site and only rustic latrines. (Camp for the next 2 nights)

Day 2: We travel via the Welwitschia Plains and enter the Swakop river bed to drive to the “ancient people” rock formations. From there we drive into the Khan River bed, in which we overnight. There is no water at this site and only veld latrines. Dinner will be a barbeque under the starlit sky. In this region this is called a “Braai under the stars”. After the braai we will do out first night sky photography shoot.

Day 3: Morning photography of the black mountains, after a late breakfast we exit the river bed and drive via the Moon Landscape to Swakopmund. Afternoon sea landscape photography workshop. Overnight in Swakopmund for the next 3 nights in luxury sea facing chalets. (Chalet B&B)

Day 4: Full day drive into the Namib sand dunes to Sandwich Harbour. Pass via the salt plains outside Walvis Bay for an afternoon shoot in the Namib dunes. (Chalet B&B)

Day 5: Drive via Walvis Bay into the Kuiseb River bed for a technical 4x4 drive in this desolate landscape. Overnight at the lone standing rock mountain of Mirabib. There is no water at this site and only rustic latrines. (Camp)

Day 6: Travel via the renowned bakery at Solitaire to Sesriem where we enter the Sossusvlei. Afternoon visit for a walk into the Sesriem Canyon that offers beautiful uncommon photo opportunities. Overnight at luxury lodge in Sesriem Camp for the next 2 nights. (Lodge B&B)

Day 7: Early morning drive into Sossusvlei to walk into the Deadvlei for a sunrise shoot of this awesome landscape. After lunch we do a Photoshop workshop showing the tips and tricks on editing landscape photographs. (Lodge B&B)

Day 8: Today we head further south to the Tieras Mountains via a route that is known as “The road left around heaven” At the Tieras camp we will do a late afternoon shoot at a quiver tree forest. (Lodge B&B)

Day 9: We drive into the red sand dunes of the Kalahari which are totally different from the Namib dunes. The route back north takes us via Keetmanshoop onto Mariental where we overnight. (Chalet B&B)

Day 10: We head via Rehoboth back to Windhoek for an afternoon arrival and departure.

Day 2: Explore the Mt. Blutkuppe area with lovely landscapes and quiver trees with a workshop on basic photography principles before lunch. In the afternoon we drive to Rock Arch on a 4x4 track. At night we will do out first night sky photography shoot.

Day 3: We travel via the Welwitschia Plains and enter the Swakop river bed to drive to the “ancient people” rock formations. From there we drive into the Khan River bed, in which we will be traveling for the next 2 days. There is no water at this site and only veld latrines. Dinner will be a barbeque under the starlit sky. Day 4: Morning photography of the black mountains, after a late breakfast we continue in the Khan River exploring the beautiful cliffs and mountains we drive through. At night we will do our 2nd night sky photography shoot, focusing on star trails.

Day 5: We exit the river bed and drive via the Moon Landscape to Swakopmund. Afternoon sea landscape photography workshop. Overnight for the next 3 nights in Swakopmund with full amenities including in luxury sea facing chalets. (Chalet B&B)

Day 12: Today we head further south to the Tieras Mountains via a route that is known as “The road left around heaven” At the Tieras camp we will do a late afternoon shoot at a quiver tree forest. (Lodge B&B)

Day 13: We head onto the largest canyon in Africa via Aus and the Gariep River to the Fish River Canyon where we overnight at Ai-Ais. Late afternoon shoot in the canyon. (Chalet B&B)

Day 14: Morning drive further into the canyon to explore the beautiful landscape and the vistas of this remarkable place. After dinner we will review some of the slideshows made. (Chalet B&B)

Day 15: We drive into the red sand dunes of the Kalahari which are totally different from the Namib dunes. The route back north takes us via Keetmanshoop onto Mariental where we overnight. (Chalet B&B)

Day 16: We head via Rehoboth back to Windhoek for an afternoon arrival and departure.
